As part of a vision I have for revitalizing Jones Street, I picture a wide pedestrian boulevard directly connecting the Intermodal Transit Center to the Convention Center east entrance. It would run east-west from Jones Street to Commerce Street, between E 11th Street and E 9th street (closer to the former). In fact I would even scrap that segment of E 11th Street entirely.

The walk should be paved brick for the most part, with accomodation for bike lanes. Since the parking lot across from the ITC is elevated above the roadway, the area should either be lowered to grade (preferred) or ramps added (if needed) for ease of access.

I could see a widened section in the middle for a fountain. Space should be provided on either side for temporary vendors. This could include food, seasonal art exhibits, handmade craft merchants, etc. Trees should be planted for beautification. The area should be brightly-lit at night time. Possibly include a covered section along one side for bad weather.

This would create continuity between the two important facilities and provide people visiting the Convention Center by bus or train with a more rewarding experience. I picture something similar to the area near the Embarcadero Center plaza in San Francisco, California.

Finally, another walk cutting North-South across the middle of the current surface lots (which would be repurposed into a greenbelt/plaza for various activities) could intersect at the fountain.
