A program designed to assist visitors to the downtown area by providing assistance, directions, coupons, event information and anything else that a visitor might need to know to make their visit more fun and enjoyable. Characteristics of this program would include:
1.Ambassador personnel and supervisors employed on a full time basis.
2.Availability seven days a week at all appropriate times of the day or night.
3. Full time employment of Ambassadors would include appropriate employee benefits.
4. Program to be funded by the downtown business community and / or by private funding.
5. Employment might be offered first to those who live downtown and know the area best. Almost any age would be suitable if accompanied by proper maturity and the desire to serve the citizenry.
6. Ambassadors might have stationary kiosks and will also be constantly moving in and around areas where visitors might be found.
7. Similar successful programs now in use could be studied in greater depth to assist in the formulation of our program.
8. Ambassadors would be clothed uniformly to provide easy recognition by those seeking information. All such uniforms would be provided to them.
9. Proper and appropriate emergency training could also be provided and this would add additional eyes and ears to downtown as needed.
10. Maps, programs, general information, events, etc. could be printed by downtown business or donated by concerned citizens.
11. All businesses in downtown would benefit. Visitors could be guided to specific stores, restaurants and services as needed. They could be given special coupons for these locations. What the various businesses offer would be part of the knowledge base of the Ambassadors. Ideas for additional products and needs and types of stores would be gained based on the records of the Ambassador interactions with citizens. The need for additional city services could also be identified. Preferences could be noted by the Ambassadors and reported.
