I've noticed that public buildings have large lawns in front of them and they are rarely used to their full capacity. I suggest replacing lawns (fully or partially) with native grasses, flowers, shrubs, trees etc. a natural habitat.

It would look nicer, save money, reduce the desert-like feeling associated with a tree-less lawn, and it would be better for the environment. You could have paths and benches scattered throughout. Even a butterfly garden.

Lawns are bad for the environment as they have reduce biodiversity compared to other ecosystems, weed whackers, lawn mowers, and other maintenance equipment can be costly and emit carbon emissions. The toxins released by pesticides and herbicides are bad for humans health and the environment. Lastly, a study by UC Irvine shows that manicured lawns are a net negative where greenhouse gases are considered
