When you look at unique places, one thing that is usually standard across the board are the amount of independently owned businesses. Shops, bars, restaurants, music venues, etc. For example: everybody has heard of Dunkin Donuts, but why eat at a place that's normal and boring, when you eat at a place like Voodoo Donuts instead? It's time we encourage the off-centered, quirky, and genuinely clever entrepreneurs. Downtown has a lot of space to convert, and with a good biking/pedestrian plan and places to live, it could turn into a truly unique neighborhood that shies away from boring businesses that you can visit anywhere. Downtown Fort Worth could definitely use a business or two that are synonymous with their location.
