Hackathons

Yes, another use of the word "hack" that sounds bad, but really isn't!

Hackathons are events designed to draw out innovation in software, electronics, mechanical design, energy, etc. Sometimes they have a singular theme but often they are wide open by design.

One example is the hackathon held here yearly by AT&T, typically in Plano. It's been very successful, and in 2012 two high school coding teams took first and second prize!

But why should they have all the fun east of highway 360? Let's bring hackathon fun and success to Fort Worth! I'm working on one right now, for National Day of Civic Hacking (http://hackforchange.org/), a national event that will take place June 1-2, 2013. The idea is for software developers to do something useful (and of course completely legal) with data freely provided by government agencies.

So let's make this happen!
