Yes, another use of the word "hack" that sounds bad, but really isn't! Hackathons are events designed to draw out innovation in software, electronics, mechanical design, energy, etc. Sometimes they have a singular theme but often they are wide open by design. One example is the hackathon held here yearly by AT&T, typically in Plano. It's been very successful, and in 2012 two high school coding teams took first and second prize!
