This idea would be to use rooftops as gardens to grow food that could be either sold at the downtown farmer's markets and/or used in local restaurants. Besides the nutritional benefits, other pros would be the reduction in rainwater runoff, reduction of heat island effect and the reduction of cooling costs, since the gardens act as a natural insulator during the hot summers of Texas. If we got a grant from the city to build and operate these gardens, we could build a co-op system.
